Jungo TV Championing Accessibility in Entertainment with Jungo Pinoy
Jungo TV launched their streaming platform for Filipinos namely Jungo Pinoy with a collection of free Tagalog-dubbed content and live channels including the revival of Hallypop last November 21.
“There should be no price tag for people to enjoy themselves,” Jungo TV stated during the press launch in Century City Mall. The Los Angeles-based company which started as a paid subscription streaming platform in 2016 is now offering its services for free. During the launch, they highlighted their desire to provide entertainment for everyone explaining that they understand how people prioritize spending money on their basic necessities over entertainment, and that led them to their decision to make the platform free.
Jungo TV also proudly presents its live TV channels namely Hallypop, All Women’s Sports Network, and Black Belt. Hallypop, a channel that gained recognition from featuring Korean pop culture in partnership with Seoul Broadcasting System was initially announced to stop operations last September after parting ways with GMA Network. However, with the launching of Jungo Pinoy, Hallypop marked its comeback. All Women’s Sports Network, a passion project of EGOT star Whoopi Goldberg that took years to come to fruition is a space exclusively for women’s talents and successes in different sports everywhere to be in the spotlight. And finally, Black Belt in partnership with the magazine of the same name is a channel that features all things related to martial arts.
Watch Cain at Abel, Ulan, and more on Jungo Pinoy
Aside from taking away the fees in talking about accessibility, Jungo Pinoy also provides Tagalog-dubbed films and dramas from different parts of the world while also providing locally produced TV and films just like ‘Cain at Abel’ by Lino Brocka and ‘Ulan’ by Irene Villamor starring Nadine Lustre and Carlo Aquino. Their library of content has an array of available genres such as drama, comedy, action, horror, romance, and classics.
According to the company’s CEO and COO, George Chung, and Miguel Santos, another main goal is not to become a big name. Still, instead, they want to do something different and just keep putting out more things so that every Filipino can be entertained. In terms of business, they want to cater to a lot of people but at the same time, they still choose their content carefully as they stay mindful of the market, time, and money paid for the people they work with, boasting that they refuse to use artificial intelligence. Although they admit that the platform is still establishing audiences, they also mentioned that they look forward to plans of branching out to release Tagalog dubs of European and Thai media and release original content. Another discussed feature that will be explored in the future of the platform is offline streaming.
