After 15 years, Legally Blonde is set to make its highly anticipated return to the Philippine musical theater scene. Catch this iconic production in May 2025 at the Ateneo de Manila University, brought to you by Ateneo Blue Repertory, the company behind the award-winning Zsazsa Zaturnnah The Musical... ‘Yun Lang!, the PROM, RENT (2018), Next to Normal (2020), and Spring Awakening.
Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the prestigious law school. While there, she struggles with peers, professors, and her ex. With the support of some new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.
Concluding Ateneo Blue Repertory’s 33rd Season, with the theme of “Full Bloom: Transformation in Motion,” Legally Blonde witnesses Elle Woods transcend societal expectations in her journey to find strength in her own truth. Offering a fresh and grounded take on the show’s timeless message of sisterhood, solidarity, and feminine power, this run of Legally Blonde is sure to put the show under a newer, pinker light.
The production boasts a distinguished artistic team led by Director Meann Espinosa, who directed Identité at the 2024 Virgin Labfest and Hustisya.exe in the PETA Lab for 2024 and 2025, respectively. Alongside her are Musical Director Matthew Chang (Chasing Dick: A Love Story, Balang Araw: Nica Rosario’s 12-Year Celebration Concert, Dekada ‘70), Choreographer Jim Ferrer (Here Lies Love (2014), Ang Huling El Bimbo, Legally Blonde (2010)), Production Designer Ohm David (Mula sa Buwan, Bar Boys: A New Musical, Sa Tahanan ng Aking Ama), Costume Designer Hershee Tantiado (Jepoy and the Magic Circle, Buruguduystunstugudunstuy, Mula sa Buwan), and Lighting Designer Jethro Nibaten (Bar Boys: A New Musical, The Half Life of Marie Curie, The Last Five Years).
Elle Woods will be portrayed by alternates Danielle Nicola Tan (Zsazsa Zaturnnah the Musical…’Yun Lang!) and LJ Bala (Orphie and the Book of Heroes, 'Til Death Do Us Part), while Emmett Forrest will be alternately played by MC Dela Cruz (Sandosenang Sapatos, Mula sa Buwan) and Ron Balgos (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Zsazsa Zaturnnah the Musical…’Yun Lang!). Several prominent personalities will also grace the stage, with Professor Callahan portrayed by alternates Norbs Portales (Walang Aray, The Tempest Reimagined) and JV Fulgencio (Jepoy and the Magic Circle, Only We Know: From Endings to Beginnings), Warner Huntington III played by Theo Gaspar (Art Jam, INTERAKTIV), Brooke Wyndham portrayed by Misha Fabian (Pilato, Silver Lining Redux, RENT (2024)), and Senanda (ABSURDO: EVENT DAY, OFW: BALIKTAD ANG MUNDO), Paulette alternately portrayed by Gel Basa (Dekada ‘70, Mula sa Buwan) and Raflesia Bravo (Rak of Aegis, Himala: Isang Musikal (2024)) and Kyle B. O’Boyle played by Matt Gador (Teodora, Gregoria, Teresa, 2Bayani).
