MMFF 2024 completes film lineup for its 50th edition

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) unveils the 2nd half of films included in its 2024 iteration, which will be its 50th anniversary. This will complete the allotted ten slots for the film festival, continuing with the expanded number of entries introduced in 2023. All entries will premiere on December 25, 2024, Christmas Day.

These films include the time-twisting rom-com My Future You, the revenge thriller Uninvited, the bloody action film Topakk, the Japan-set rom-com Hold Me Close, and the rural horror film Espantaho. These films were chosen based on the finished film.

The first half of the films were revealed last July 16, 2024. These films include Vice Ganda’s and Jun Robles Lana’s collaborative effort And the Breadwinner Is…, Piolo Pascual and Vic Sotto starrer The Kingdom, Zig Dulay’s latest tearjerker Green Bones, Pepe Diokno’s movie adaptation of Himala, Isang Musikal now called Isang Himala, and the found-footage horror film Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital. These films were selected based on the strength of their scripts.

According to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando S. Artes, 39 scripts and 31 finished films were submitted for this year. Due to the huge number of entries, the MMDA is considering mounting a summer edition of MMFF for next year.
