QCinema Project Market Awards Upcoming Filipino and Southeast Asian Projects
As QCinema’s official industry initiative, QCinema Project Market (QPM) and partner studios awarded grants to select Filipino and Southeast Asian projects. This platform enriches the development of the local and international film industry. Last Saturday, November 16, filmmakers and industry professionals gathered to celebrate the 12th edition of the QCinema International Film Festival.
Overview of Awards
The QCinema Project Jury selected the winners of the Co-Production Grant: Sonny Calvento’s ‘Mother Maybe,’ Martika Ramirez Escobar’s ‘Daughters of the Sea,’ and Eve Baswel’s ‘Heaven Help Us.’ These three Filipino projects were awarded grants worth ₱2,000,000 each.
For Southeast Asian works, the QCinema Project Jury awarded Sein Lyan Tun’s ‘The Beergirl in Yangon’ a ₱1,000,000 production grant, while Daniel Hui’s ‘Other People’s Dreams’ and Ananth Subramaniam’s ‘The Passport’ received ₱750,000 grants each.
For the upcoming project, Mocha Chai Laboratories awarded Joel Ruiz’s ‘Angel de Dios’ comprehensive post-production services valued at up to $50,000.
For film equipment support from CIMB Bank, Eileen Cabiling’s ‘Lihim na Luha,’ Gabriela Serrano’s ‘Please Bear With Me,’ JP Habac’s ‘Golden,’ Ruiz’s ‘Angel de Dios,’ and Kenneth Dagatan’s ‘Molder’ all received ₱1,000,000, while all other Filipino projects received ₱500,000.
Dagatan’s ’Molder’ also received sound post-production services from Kongchak Studio, valued at up to $10,000. These services will be done in their studios in Cambodia.
Atsuko Hirayanagi’s ‘The Returning’ and Mario Cornejo’s ‘My Neighbor the Gangster’ were awarded color correction grants worth $10,000 each by Central Digital Lab.
Two Southeast Asian projects, Maung Sun’s ‘Future Laobans’ and Aakash Chhabra’s ‘I’ll Smile in September,’ and two Filipino projects, Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan’s ‘Hum’ and Habac’s ’Golden,’ were also awarded color correction grants valued up to $14,000 each from Barebones.
The T6xBB Award was given to ‘The Beer Girl in Yangon,’ an in-kind prize in production services valued up to $14,000. Another partner studio, Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) awarded Keith Sicat’s ‘Ewa’ (Eve) a cash prize of $5,000.
Lastly, Cabiling’s ‘Lihim na Luha’ was also bestowed the Nathan Studios Development Grant worth ₱250,000.
The event served as a channel where film industry professionals, from the Philippines or other Southeast Asian countries, could connect and vitalize film production beyond global borders.
