SINEGANG.ph's 2025 Oscars Predictions
SINEGANG.ph's 2025 Oscars Predictions
This is one of the most unpredictable awards seasons ever—and to that we say, bring on the chaos!
The year 2024 gave us some of the boldest filmmaking in recent years, and we’re glad that the Academy for one agrees with the critics and the cinephiles. While snubs are inevitable (and often painful), we think that there are many inspired picks in this year’s class of nominees.
And as we all wait in anticipation for the 97th Academy Awards, the SINEGANG.ph staffers cast their own ballots to predict who they think will win the gold. Remember: this is all just fun and games; a movie isn’t defined by its number of wins or lack thereof.
So, without further ado, here are our predictions for the 2025 Oscars.
Ralph Fiennes in ‘Conclave.’
BEST PICTURE
There was a time when Emilia Pérez seemed the frontrunner for Best Picture, especially after receiving a staggering 11 nominations going into the ceremony—oh, how the times have changed. So who takes home top honors? It’s worth noting that Best Picture uses a preferential ballot, and we think Conclave has the best chance of appealing to the vast membership of the Academy and thus garnering the most votes. Also, just look at the last three Ensemble winners from SAG, the Academy’s largest branch.
Anora
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave — Predicted Winner
Dune: Part Two
Emilia Pérez
I’m Still Here
Nickel Boys
The Substance
Wicked
Brady Corbet directing ‘The Brutalist.’
BEST DIRECTOR
This year’s crop of directors are all first-time nominees, three of them at the helm of Cannes-winning films. While Sean Baker may have received the trophy of approval from the producing and directing guilds, we think that Brady Corbet has the slightest edge over Baker with his more ambitious and auteur-like vision in The Brutalist.
Sean Baker
Brady Corbet — Predicted Winner
James Mangold
Jacques Audiard
Coralie Fargeat
Adrien Brody in ‘The Brutalist.’
BEST ACTOR
Fun fact: If Timothée Chalamet wins Best Actor, he would become the category’s youngest winner ever and dethroning—guess who—fellow nominee Adrien Brody, who was also 29 years old when he won back in 2003. Brody had been sweeping throughout the entire awards season until Chalamet took home the decisive SAG trophy. It’s a tight race, but we’re banking on Brody.
Adrien Brody — Predicted Winner
Timothée Chalamet
Colman Domingo
Ralph Fiennes
Sebastian Stan
Demi Moore in ‘The Substance.’
BEST ACTRESS
Speaking of tight races, Best Actress in recent years has been the most competitive and highly anticipated category—and this year is no exception. Demi Moore’s comeback narrative from Popcorn Actress to Cannes Horror Queen will definitely be one for the history books. Same goes for Mikey Madison’s star-making turn in Anora. And don’t count out Fernanda Torres; after all she did win a Golden Globe. But ultimately it seems like everything is falling into place at the right time for Moore.
Cynthia Erivo
Karla Sofía Gascón
Mikey Madison
Demi Moore — Predicted Winner
Fernanda Torres
Kieran Culkin in ‘A Real Pain.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
This is Kieran Culkin’s to lose. Also imagine how poetic it would be for Roman to win over Kendall again?
Yura Borisov
Kieran Culkin — Predicted Winner
Edward Norton
Guy Pearce
Jeremy Strong
Zoe Saldaña in ‘Emilia Pérez.’
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Another name that’s been on top of awards season is Zoe Saldaña. For a moment, it seemed like her Emilia Pérez co-star’s controversy would tarnish her campaign. But voters love her and are charmed by her sincerity and gratitude. And despite her film not really resonating with us, we think she’s the bright star amongst all the chaos.
Monica Barbaro
Ariana Grande
Felicity Jones
Isabella Rossellini
Zoe Saldaña — Predicted Winner
Mikey Madison in ‘Anora.’
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Having won the same award at Cannes, The Substance should be the clear frontrunner; it was also our highest rated film of 2024. But we’re also very enamored with Anora. If only ties weren’t as rare as they come, then everyone can be happy.
Anora — Predicted Winner (tie)
The Brutalist
A Real Pain
September 5
The Substance — Predicted Winner (tie)
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
