Naglunsad ng Golden Hour Solidarity Action ang iba’t ibang progresibong organisasyon para sa paglabas ng Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) ng Eddie Garcia Law (EGL) sa Boy Scout Circle, Quezon City nitong ika-11 ng Setyembre.
Nagkaisa at nagtipon ang mga manggagawa ng telebisyon at pelikula, at estudyante para ipahayag ang kanilang mga panawagan sa inaasahang IRR ng Eddie Garcia Law.
Ipinahayag ni Jo Tanierla, miyembro ng Tambisan sa Sining at Eyes on Set Network ang mga dapat pang paunlarin sa EGL.
“Positibong hakbang ang IRR ng EGL o yung pagkakasa-batas ng EGL in general; malaking hakbang ito sa pagkilala ng karapatan ng mga manggagawa sa telebisyon at pelikula. Gayunpaman, bitin, malabnaw, at kinukulang ang batas. Hindi nito tinitiyak ang nakabubuhay na sahod para sa mga manggagawa at hindi pa rin nito ibinababa ang oras ng paggawa sa mga production set sa makataong antas. 14 hours pa din, so ang hinahabol natin at matagal ng panawagan ng kilusang paggawa ay ang nakabubuhay na sahod o family living wage para sa 8 oras na pagtatrabaho,” ani Jo.
Dagdag pa nya, nararapat na magkaisa ang mga manggagawa sa midya upang makamit ang nararapat na karapatan.
“Ang panawagan natin ngayon sa lahat ng manggagawa sa pelikula at TV, mga artista at cultural workers ay magkaisa tayo at gawin nating tangible ang pagkakaisa na ito sa pamamagitan ng pagbuo ng mga guilds, mga organization, at mga unions,“ ani Jo.
Kasabay ng pagtitipon ang paglunsad ng Eyes on Set Network, isang independent network na magiging tanggapan ng tanong at konsultasyon para sa mga karapatan ng mga manggagawa sa pelikula at telebisyon.
Nag-abot din ng mensahe ang Bayan Muna, Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD), Mayday Multimedia, Kadamay, Kilusang Mayo Uno, at Tambisan sa Sining.

Different progressive organizations have launched a Golden Hour Solidarity Action in light of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Eddie Garcia Law (EGL) in Boy Scout Circle, Quezon City this September 11.
TV and film industry workers as well as students have united to amplify the calls regarding the IRR of the Eddie Garcia Law.
Jo Tanierla, a member of the Tambisan sa Sining and the Eyes on Set Network, shared what they think must be improved regarding the EGL.
“The implementation of the IRR or the legalization of the EGL in general is a positive step; it’s a huge step in recognizing the rights of film and TV industry workers. Nonetheless, the law falls short and feels dilute and insufficient. It does not assure a living wage for workers and it does not lower the working hours on set to humane standards. It’s still 14 hours, so what we’re aiming for is family living wage for 8 hours of work,” said Jo.
They added that workers in the media industry must unite to achieve the rights they deserve.
“Our call now is for all film and TV industry workers, celebrities, and cultural workers to unite and help make tangible our forces by building guilds, organizations, and even unions,” said Jo.
Alongside the solidarity action is the launching of the Eyes on Set Network, an independent network that will be a citizen watchdog and advocacy platform for questions and consultations regarding the rights of media workers.
Other progressive groups such as Bayan Muna, Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD), Mayday Multimedia, Kadamay, Kilusang Mayo Uno, and Tambisan sa Sining also gave messages in solidarity.
